The other side of the coin (as it were!) is that, if you put yourself into a 'scientific' frame of mind, you'll get 'scientific' results. Which is what it sounds like you did. This is not to say that scientists don't see amazing surprising mindblowing things when they do experiments. Or you could spin it the other way: in some ways it's pretty cool that you managed to get exactly what probability theory would suggest. What's the chances of that?

When I was 14 I was deep into D&D and suchlike... and I have to say that some f*cking weird things happen when you mix dice with emotional involvement. Though I've never seen them move by themselves, I've seen my share of 'impossible' rolls, 'good' dice and 'bad' dice. The die that jumps off the table and vanishes, only to be found with the required '6' facing up (if it rolled and then landed flat, it was a fair roll in those days - one had to have clear rules). Unbelievable runs of 6's or 00's or whatever. (No drugs involved, unless you count Salt & Vinegar Chipsticks and VERY strong Vimto. :D) 'Risk', the mainstream boardgame, is particularly prone to these shenanigans. One in 216 throws should come up treble-six, right? Nah, not a chance. To this day I still don't like mucking about with dice - I always feel I should give them a bit of respect.

Book was "Incidente em Antares" (Incident at Antares), by Érico Veríssimo. I've tracked down the passage, and it actually reads significantly different from what I've reported, but the most interesting elements are there:

Translates roughly to:
"The owner of Universo's Bakery go upwards through [av.] Homeland Voluntaries, driving his Kombi. By seeing the group at the middle of the street he begins to honk frenetically, and by noticing that the group doesn't open his way, he puts the head out of the car and yells: "Get out, your clowns! Carnival is not here yet!" - at this momments he recognizes some of the defuncts and, panic-stricken, accelerates the car, twist bruscally to a side the tires, the vehicle climbs the sidewalk and it comes up violently at a building's wall".

I remember thinking that the phrases after the first (the actual result) were kinda scary, but by default I would only acept the specific result phrase as having divinatory significance.
But as I got to retell the story, I've added to the first phrase (result) an aspect of what happens afterwards (Guy interacts notices weird people at the street and pulls the car to the sidewalk), but editing out the ostensibly negative aspect.

I wasn't ON ayahuasca at that precise momment; but I had like 5 experiences in a dozen days interval, and I felt like I was 'glittering' inside, full of clear energy (similar as to how I left my last 10-day vipassana retreat). So full in fact that I was leaking crazily - lots of synchronicity. (During the return hitchiking trip I had a dream where I had to find where was the leak in a butane bottle, while it's hose was blowing flames like a flamethrower - at the end of the dream I concluded that every one of the '3 parts of the bottle' was leaking). Crowley says that when random 'miracles' happen, usually it's due to deficient "insulation" at your magickal workings.

I'm checking the article you linked; I knew about the 'telepathine', but wasn't aware there was someone studying this, right now. I had a interesting telepathic-like comunication with a friend, once, on ayahuasca, but it's VERY hard to tell if it was more like empathy+presumption of transmitted content. Also, during a (very strong and bad) acid trip, once, there was a lot of intersubjective weirdness, like shared perceptions, feelings and thoughts with probably no actual comunication. But as everyone was tripping balls, it's very hard to pinpoint.

Really interesting story. Have you come across the work of David Luke on ayahuasca (and other entheogens) and their possible implication in ESP, precognition, etc.? Apparently, the active ingredient in ayahuasca was originally named 'telepathine' after the effect it was often reported to have. Luke did an interesting experiment on himself after taking the drug, with some interesting results. I'm fascinated by the way in your case the experience depends upon the passage in the book -- a material text. Do you know what the book was, and are you able to track that passage down? This would help rule out the 'false' / 'distorted' memory hypothesis.
